Acceptable Use Policy
What Wishari is for, what it is not for, and how to report abuse.
Wishari is built for legitimate gift-giving occasions. To keep the platform safe for everyone, we ask all users to follow this Acceptable Use Policy. This policy supplements our Terms of Service; a breach is also a breach of the Terms.
Permitted uses
Wishari is for personal milestones. Whether the gift is an item or a cash goal, the recipient is always you — the Creator — not a third party, not an organisation, not an emergency cause. Within that framing, Wishari is for:
- Birthdays, weddings, baby registries, baby showers, housewarmings, honeymoon funds, and similar life-milestone occasions captured by the general "Other" category.
- Listing real items, experiences, or specific cash goals you would like to receive as a gift.
- Personal cash goals tied to a moment in your own life — tuition for yourself, the trip you have been planning, equipment for your craft, moving costs for a new chapter, the bike or instrument you have been saving for. The recipient is always you.
- Sharing your registry link with the people you would like to invite to contribute.
Prohibited uses
You may not use Wishari for any of the following:
- Fraud — including fabricated occasions, fake identities, fictional beneficiaries, or any attempt to deceive Contributors.
- Money laundering or any attempt to disguise the origin of funds.
- Third-party fundraising — soliciting contributions on behalf of someone who is not the Creator. That includes NGOs, religious organisations, schools, clubs, businesses, family members, friends, or any other person or cause. Wishari is for personal milestones, not external beneficiaries. For third-party fundraising, please use a platform built for it (such as GoFundMe, GiveSendGo, or a registered Nigerian charity).
- Emergency or disaster fundraising — including medical bills, funeral costs, accident response, disaster relief, evacuation, legal defence funds, or similar urgent appeals. These need beneficiary verification, transparency, and fund-usage reporting that Wishari does not offer; using a purpose-built platform protects both you and your Contributors.
- Political campaigning, party affiliations, electoral activity, or fundraising for political causes — these are regulated separately under Nigerian electoral law and are out of scope for a gift registry.
- Claiming that a contribution made through Wishari is tax-deductible, charitable, or otherwise eligible for tax relief. Wishari is not a registered charity and cannot issue tax receipts.
- Sale or transfer of regulated products — including alcohol to under-18s, tobacco, firearms, cannabis, pharmaceuticals requiring a prescription, securities, or cryptocurrencies.
- Adult services, pornographic content, escort services, or content that sexualises minors.
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, or content that promotes violence against any group.
- Spam, deceptive marketing, phishing, or impersonation of another person or organisation.
- Attempts to bypass the platform's payment flow — directing Contributors to send money outside Wishari, requesting wire transfers, or offering payment instructions in love notes.
- Reverse-engineering, scraping, automated mass requests, or any attempt to interfere with the platform's operation.
What we do when we find a breach
Depending on the severity, we may:
- Privately ask you to remove the offending content.
- Hide the offending content from public view pending review.
- Suspend your registry or your account.
- Permanently terminate your account.
- Withhold payouts pending our PSP's investigation.
- Report the activity to law-enforcement authorities or to relevant regulators (EFCC, NDPC, NFIU, CBN, FIRS).
Reporting abuse
If you see a registry, profile, or contribution that violates this policy, please write to report@wishari.co. Include a link, a description of the issue, and any context that helps us review. We treat every report seriously and aim to acknowledge within 2 business days. If the report concerns an imminent risk to someone's safety, please also contact the appropriate local emergency service.
Appeals
If we suspend or terminate your account and you believe it was a mistake, you may appeal by emailing hello@wishari.co. We will review the appeal and respond within 14 business days. We may keep the suspension in place during the review where keeping the content public would create harm.
